What is the significance of the 2020 Population Census? This question may still linger for some members of the public. However, for the government, it is undoubtedly crucial. The Population Census will yield demographic data that serves as a foundation for planning various policies.
But what about the public? The importance is equally significant. All residents living in Indonesia will be recorded in the Population Census. The benefits experienced by the public are generally not immediate. The community will enjoy advantages after policies are made by the government based on the demographic data produced by the Population Census.
For example, if the government aims to expand access to healthcare services, the Population Census will illustrate the distribution of the population by age group and region. It will reveal how many toddlers, seniors, and teenagers are in a particular area, which can then be compared to the availability of existing healthcare facilities and services to determine if they are adequate. If there is an imbalance between the number of healthcare facilities and the population in that area, appropriate policies will be enacted. The same applies to other public services such as schools, markets, and public facilities. This is a simple illustration of how the community benefits from data generated by the Population Census, with many more extensive advantages to follow.
