Release of Poverty Profile and Expenditure Inequality Levels in South Kalimantan, September 2020
Banjarbaru – The Statistic of South Kalimantan Province has released several strategic indicators related to poverty, namely:

2. Expenditure Inequality Levels of South Kalimantan Residents, September 2020
These strategic indicators were presented by the Head of Statistic of South Kalimantan Province during a press release at the BPS Provincial Office on Monday (February 15, 2021). I. POVERTY PROFILE OF SOUTH KALIMANTAN, SEPTEMBER 2020
Here are some key highlights from the release:
1. As of September 2020, the number of poor residents in South Kalimantan was 206,920, with a poverty rate of 4.83 percent.
2. The number of poor residents in urban areas was recorded at 78,840, with a poverty rate of 3.83 percent, while the number of poor residents in rural areas was 128,080, with a poverty rate of 5.76 percent.
3. South Kalimantan has the lowest poverty rate among provinces in Kalimantan. The highest poverty rate in the region is found in North Kalimantan, at 7.41 percent.
4. The contribution of food commodities to the poverty line is 71.55 percent.
5. The Poverty Depth Index (P1) in South Kalimantan is 0.770, and the Poverty Severity Index (P2) is 0.182.
6. The expenditure inequality level of South Kalimantan, measured by the Gini Ratio, is 0.351. This figure represents an increase of 0.019 points compared to March 2020, which was 0.332. Additionally, compared to the Gini Ratio of September 2019, which was 0.334, there has been an increase of 0.017 points.
7. Expenditure inequality in South Kalimantan is categorized as low, as evidenced by the percentage of expenditure distribution among the bottom 40 percent of the population, which stands at 19.26 percent.
8. Expenditure inequality in rural areas is better than that in urban areas. This is indicated by the percentage of expenditure distribution among the bottom 40 percent of the population in rural areas, which is higher than in urban areas, at 23.87 percent compared to 18.32 percent.
