Statistic of South Kalimantan Province Holds Technical Meeting for Village Statistics Coordinators
In response to the increasing use of data from the Statistic Indonesia-BPS, particularly by the South Kalimantan Provincial Government, there is a growing vigilance among the public, data users, and observers towards Statistic Indonesia-BPS. To address this, all levels of Statistic Indonesia-BPS, from the national leadership to field officers, must work diligently to keep pace with rapid developments across various sectors.
Aligning with BPS's vision of being "A Pioneer of Trusted Statistical Data for All," the role of the Kecamatan Statistics Coordinator (KSK) is crucial as the frontline for Statistic Indonesia-BPS. The KSK is vital for the operational life of Statistic Indonesia-BPS, serving as the extended arm of Statistic Indonesia-BPS at the national, provincial, and district/city levels.
Recognizing this importance, the Statistic of South Kalimantan Province organized a Technical Meeting (Ratek) for KSK at the Aria Barito Hotel in Banjarmasin from March 10-12, 2014. The meeting aimed to evaluate the KSK's performance in 2013, especially regarding the 2013 Household Income Survey (SPP), enhance KSK performance, and prepare for 2014 activities, including subsector data collection for the 2014 Strategic Commodities Business Cost Structure Survey and the 2014 Village Potential Data Collection (Podes) along with other surveys.
Themed “With the Spirit of Bureaucratic Reform, We Execute Data Collection Professionally, Qualitatively, and Timely,” the meeting was officially opened by Dyan Pramono Effendi and attended by 157 KSK representatives from South Kalimantan. According to Dyan, “The performance of Statistic Indonesia-BPS will stagnate or suffer if we neglect the important role of KSK.” Thus, he emphasized the need to appreciate the hard work of KSK in the field, underscoring that events like this are essential. Without engaging KSK at the grassroots level, it would be challenging for Statistic Indonesia-BPS to provide high-quality statistical data.
The credibility of Statistic Indonesia-BPS is at stake in the hands of KSK, who are the "soul" of Statistic Indonesia-BPS as data collectors in the field. With such a strategic position, any deviation could adversely affect the overall quality of Statistic Indonesia-BPS data. Dyan urged KSK to work with seriousness, dedication, and professionalism, making the most of the time spent at the Ratek to produce beneficial and applicable outputs and strategies for their field tasks.
At the end of the event, Dyan awarded prizes to KSK members who produced the best publications for the District in Figures 2013 and for the fastest and most accurate practice in installing sampling tools.
