The Village Potential Census (Podes) data collection is the sole source of thematic, area-based data that effectively captures the resources and potential of village-level areas. To enhance this critical data gathering initiative, a regional training session for Local Instructors (Inda) for Podes 2014 was held from March 16 to 19, 2014, at Hotel Nasa in Banjarmasin. The training brought together 19 participants, including 13 from BPS Regency/Municipal offices and six from the Statistic of South Kalimantan Province.
The training was officially opened by Dyan Pramono Effendi, Head of Statistic of South Kalimantan Province, alongside Agnes Widiastuti, Head of Social Statistics, and M. Iskandar Edris from the Statistic Indonesia-BPS Social Resilience Directorate as a National Instructor (Innas) for Podes 2014. In his opening remarks, Effendi emphasized that this training marked a crucial stage in the extensive data collection efforts for 2014.
He highlighted that the success of Podes 2014 depended significantly on the Inda’s ability to grasp the training materials delivered by the Innas. A well-prepared Inda team would not only train competent and responsible field officers but would also help ensure high-quality data collection. The insights from Podes 2014 will serve as an essential resource for area-specific planning, control, and evaluation across both urban-rural and coastal-inland classifications, and for identifying disadvantaged areas, among other needs.
Effendi reminded participants that the rigorous schedule of Statistic Indonesia-BPS activities in 2014, coupled with the April 9 legislative elections, could pose challenges to the timeline of the Podes 2014 fieldwork. He called on all related parties to carefully assign responsibilities to field staff, ensuring that all tasks are completed on time.
Effendi also encouraged all Inda participants to approach the training with dedication, order, and discipline, emphasizing the values of professionalism, integrity, and trustworthiness as core elements of Statistic Indonesia-BPS's work culture.
