Banjarbaru - Statistic Indonesia-BPS conducted various labor force data collection activities throughout Indonesia in 2015 as part of its ongoing commitment to provide current and comprehensive data on employment and unemployment trends. Through surveys such as the Population Census (SP), the Intercensal Population Survey (SUPAS), the National Socio-Economic Survey (SUSENAS), and specifically the National Labour Force Survey (Sakernas), Statistic Indonesia-BPS gathers detailed statistics that reflect labor conditions across different periods.
The National Labour Force Survey, known as Sakernas, began in 1976 and has undergone various modifications in sample size, geographic scope, and frequency. Initially conducted quarterly from 1986 to 1993, Sakernas shifted to an annual survey every August between 1994 and 2001. From 2002 to 2004, it was conducted both annually and quarterly. From 2005 to 2010, the survey was conducted biannually in February and August. In response to the increased need for timely, comprehensive, and accurate labor data, Sakernas transitioned to a quarterly schedule from 2011 to 2014, collecting data in February, May, August, and November, with analysis provided at the provincial level. In August, additional sampling allowed for data estimates at the district level.
Starting in 2015, Sakernas resumed a biannual format, conducted in February (first semester) and August (second semester), with data analysis extending to the provincial level. In August, additional samples enabled data estimates to reach the district level.
Sakernas 2015 Survey Goals
The primary goal of Sakernas 2015 is to continuously provide annual key labor statistics. The survey aims to capture data on employment, unemployment, and labor force transitions, as well as on the development of these trends at district, provincial, and national levels. Sakernas 2015 was carried out in both urban and rural areas throughout Indonesia, with a total sample size of 50,000 households in the first semester and 250,000 households in the second semester.
Data collection covered general demographic information for each household member, such as name, relationship to the head of the household, gender, and age. For household members over the age of 10, questions covered marital status, education, employment, unemployment, and work experience.
