Balancing COVID-19 Management and Economic Growth in South Kalimantan

Banjarbaru – "Finding a balance between managing COVID-19 and maintaining economic growth is crucial at this time. The economy must keep moving forward while prioritizing health protocols. President Jokowi introduced a 'gas and brake' strategy. There are times to accelerate economic growth and times to apply the brakes to curb the spread of COVID-19," stated Syafrizal ZA, the Acting Governor of South Kalimantan, during a coordination meeting focused on controlling COVID-19 within the economic sector, held at the Idham Chalid Office Building of the Provincial Government of South Kalimantan on Wednesday (June 16, 2021).

The event aimed to align perceptions and strategies of the government in efforts to revive the economy in South Kalimantan. Officials from the Regional Communication Forum (Forkopimda) of South Kalimantan were in attendance, alongside representatives from the business community. The meeting was also attended virtually by mayors and regents from across South Kalimantan. Yos Rusdiansyah, the Head of Statistic of South Kalimantan Province, was present in person, sitting alongside other VIP guests.

The role of BPS was significant during this event. Presentations regarding the economic situation in South Kalimantan by Syafrizal and Amanlison Sembiring, the Head of the BI Representative Office in South Kalimantan, heavily referenced BPS data, particularly concerning economic growth.

At the conclusion of the event, the Head of Statistic of South Kalimantan Province had the opportunity to engage in casual discussions with the Acting Governor, the Secretary of the Region, the Head of the Regional Planning Agency, and several officials within the Forkopimda of South Kalimantan.
