Statistic of South Kalimantan Province Attends Regional Inflation Control Coordination Meeting

Banjarbaru – Following President Joko Widodo's directives during the National Coordination Meeting on Inflation Control in August, the Head of Statistic of South Kalimantan Province, Yos Rusdiansyah, attended the Regional Inflation Control Coordination Meeting for South Kalimantan Province on Friday, September 2, 2022, at 09.00 WITA in the Aberani Sulaiman Meeting Room, South Kalimantan Provincial Secretariat, Banjarbaru. The meeting was also attended by representatives from Bappeda, various departments and vertical agencies, Bank Indonesia, state-owned enterprises (BUMN), the TNI/Polri, and related organizations.

The two-hour meeting focused on regional inflation control in South Kalimantan Province. As a member of the Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID), BPS served as one of the key presenters, providing updates on inflation data in the province.

The meeting was opened by South Kalimantan Provincial Secretary, Roy Rizali Anwar, who highlighted the importance of controlling inflation, particularly with the rising prices of food and other essential goods. He emphasized the need for mitigation and coordination between agencies to keep inflation in check.

Yos Rusdiansyah, Head of Statistic of South Kalimantan Province, presented the province's inflation data for August 2022, revealing a deflation rate of 0.42% month-to-month. However, the province experienced a calendar year inflation rate of 4.09%, and a year-on-year inflation rate of 5.80%, exceeding the national inflation target of 2%–4% per year.

He further explained the key commodities driving inflation in August 2022. The drop in red onion prices significantly contributed to the deflation in August, along with a reduction in air transport fares. However, some commodities, including household fuels, rice, eggs, and chicken meat, saw price increases, raising concerns about future inflationary pressures in South Kalimantan.

The inflation data presented by BPS is expected to serve as a foundation for decision-making and coordination with various stakeholders and agencies in South Kalimantan to better manage the province's inflation situation.
