Training on Tuberculosis Prevalence Survey (SPTB) Held in South Kalimantan
To gain a better understanding of Tuberculosis (TB) and identify ways to enhance TB programs in accordance with WHO global standards, a training session on the Socialization and Prevalence Survey of Tuberculosis (SPTB) was conducted in South Kalimantan.
The event took place in the auditorium of the Statistic of South Kalimantan Province in February 2014, officially opened by Dyan Pramono Effendi, accompanied by Agnes Widyastuti (Head of Social Statistics), Titik Munawaroh (resource person from Statistic Indonesia-BPS), and Dr. Yuana Wiryaman (resource person from the National Institute of Health Research and Development).
During the opening ceremony, Dyan announced that the SPTB would be carried out in only four regions: Banjarmasin City, Banjar Regency, Tanah Laut, and Hulu Sungai Tengah. The survey is scheduled to be conducted by the Coordinators of Statistical Sub-Districts (KSK) from February to March 2014, requiring timely updates. Dyan emphasized the importance of understanding the concepts and definitions presented by the resource persons from both Statistic Indonesia-BPS and the National Institute of Health Research and Development to ensure high-quality and timely data collection.
Additionally, Dr. Yuana explained that the primary objective of the SPTB is to determine the national prevalence of positive BTA and bacteriologically confirmed pulmonary TB among individuals aged 15 years and older. The pre-survey phase includes 1) socialization/briefing conducted by the central team to each province and corresponding regencies/cities, involving Statistic Indonesia-BPS staff (one person), KSK (one person), and supervisors from each regency/city before the pre-survey; and 2) one week prior to data collection, two Statistic Indonesia-BPS staff members in each cluster will conduct listing (pre-survey visit).
The socialization and briefing sessions cover the procedures for updating the 2010 census data and filling out pre-survey questionnaires alongside the central Statistic Indonesia-BPS team, as well as instructions on the proper placement of sequential RT number stickers.
The SPTB socialization aims to obtain the prevalence of bacteriologically confirmed pulmonary TB across three different regions, comparing findings (symptoms) from the 2004 prevalence survey with those from the 2013 prevalence survey. Additionally, the study will explore the relationship between TB and environmental factors, as well as risk factors such as socioeconomic status, ventilation density, and housing conditions, including smoking, Dr. Yuana stated.
